Allan Bright

FOUNDER

Al Bright has over 40 years of mudlogging experience, beginning his career in the JM Mitchell Field in South Texas where he was consulting for Shell. After starting Basin Logging in 1974, Al has taken his mudlogging trailers and successfully logged wells in the Illinois Basin, Williston Basin, Appalachian Basin, all while making his home in the Michigan Basin. Al can often be found on his lake property near Traverse City, MI, if you can't reach him assume he is there, the cell signal is terrible.

Don Smith

Owner and operator

Donnie has been logging wells in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, New York and Pennsylvania for the last 15 years. He acquired Basin Logging from Alan Bright in April, 2020. Don is a true owner-operator as his boots are on the ground and he is responsible for trailer rig ups, billing, and equipment maintenance. When he's not at a rig working and logging wells, he can be found on the farm operating heavy equipment.

Allen Bentz

Mudlogger

Allen has over 30 years logging experience in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New York. Allen hangs out at his home of 41 years in Elmira or you can find him at his cabin on the Black River trout fishing.

Karl Schroeder

Mudlogger

Karl grew up in Northern Michigan and after getting his Bachelor’s Degree in Geology he spent his career bringing in wells around Michigan, getting his start with Amoco in Michigan’s Northern Niagaran Trend. His wellsite consultancy is unmatched when it comes to the Niagaran, Dundee, Detroit River, and Traverse Formation. When not working in the oil fields, Karl enjoys traveling to visit his children or working on his farm outside Holland, Michigan.

Neal S. Turluck

Mudlogger

Neal is a Michigan native who caught the oil bug witnessing pumpjacks in his travels around the Mitten state. He went on to get a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Geology from Western Michigan University. His logging experience began in Texas and New Mexico working in the prolific shale plays of the Permian Basin. When not kicking around drilling rigs he enjoys racing sailboats, skiing, and playing card games.
